Firefox 2, Google Unfusion

Firefox 2 Firefox 2 was a nice browser update. The built-in detection and handling of rss feeds has improved a lot, and you are now able to subscribe tot a discovered feed in the rss reader of your choice.

I was also delighted when I saw that Google Reader was one of the default options. However, behind the Google Reader subscribe we don’t find Google Reader! If you click to subscribe in Google Reader you are redirected to Google Fusion, a splash page where you get to choose between adding it to your Google Personalized Homepage or to Google reader. Because I don’t use my Google Homepage to read feeds, this is an unnecessary extra click in my subscription process. But fear not, adatible as Firefox is, you can indeed change the (default) feed readers. A quick visit to about:config (type it in te location bar) enables you to replace the annoying Google Fusion URL with a direct Google Reader subscribe URL, being: http://www.google.com/reader/view/feed/%s.

So there you go, have fun subscribing! (and while your at it, add this site ;) )
